Colors affect our mood but sometimes it can be scary to get out of our comfort zone of neutrals. This is a great time of year to start experimenting on adding color to your wardrobe. After a dark and dreary winter, spring is perfect for trying out new color pieces to go with the colorful blooms around us. Whether you want to dive right in or take baby steps into the world of colors, we have some helpful tips on how you can do it to fit your comfort level.
START WITH ACCESSORIES
A great place to start dipping your toes into color is by adding pops of colors in your accessories. Try adding a bright watch to your outfit. It might seem like a small change but it will make a louder statement than you think. People expect to see color pops in other accessories so change it up by taking the color to your wrist.
Carry a colorful bag. Many of us get our bags and purses in neutral basics like black or brown so they can go with any outfit. Yes, they are practical but can be a little dull. Why not grab a bright color to add a little excitement to your outfit.
Jewelry is another great place that many of us keep it simple with color. Why not play around with adding splashes of colors and see what fun combinations you can come up with.
GO WITH A PASTEL APPROACH
Maybe you want to take colors to the next level past your accessories but still scared of bold rainbow colors. Why not start with adding colors in a more muted way with pastels. They are enough to stand out from your basics but not loud enough to scream – I’m a magical, colorful unicorn!
COLOR YOUR FACE
Makeup is always a wonderful place to play and experiment with color. You can level up any look by just a few changes to your regular makeup routine. Maybe you decide to go for a bold monochromatic look from head to toe; or you can try complimentary colors to really make the colors pop. However, you approach your colorful makeup, just remember to commit and go in strong. Rock that color confidence!
PLAY WITH YOUR PIECES
Once you feel comfortable, try adding bigger blocks of colors in your other pieces. Shoes are a great way to brighten up any look. You can elevate a simple neutral outfit with a fun pop of color on your feet. Tops are always a great place to play around with color but make sure to find one that compliments your face than distracts from it. Go for colorful pants or skirts. Take a simple classic cut and elevate it with a punch of color.
GO ALL IN
Feeling bold? Then go for fun color-blocking with all over color from head-to-toe. Mix and match your pieces and have fun. Explore a side of you that you didn’t know you had in you. Just remember, that however you add color, feel comfortable and confident in it.
